About Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland

Supporting people in crisis since 1963Lifeline’s story began in the Sydney and Sutherland region. In 1963, the late Reverand Dr Sir Alan Walker received a phone call from a man in deep distress. Sadly, that man later took his own life. Moved by this tragedy, Sir Walker set out to make sure no one else had to face their darkest moments alone. So he launched the world’s first 24-hour crisis support line. What started as a local service has become one of Australia’s most trusted support networks. Today, 13 11 14 answers over a million calls each year from people in crisis.Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland remains at the heart of that mission. We're still here – still listening, still helping. Our centre is home to a small team of 11 staff and more than 300 trained crisis supporters, backed by a community of volunteers who come together for local events. We’re here to ensure no one faces a crisis alone. Whether it's over the phone, online, face to face or by text, our team is here to connect with people in whatever way they feel safest.Need to talk? You're not alone, and we're here to listen.Reach Lifeline 24 hours a day | 7 days a week | 365 days a yearCall 13 11 14 | Text 0477 13 11 14 | Live Chat https://lifeline.org.au/crisis-chat
