American Legion Post 597 was chartered on March 15, 1947. We are located in Historic Downtown Carrollton, Texas. We have a membership of upwards of three hundred Legionnaires. In addition, American Legion Post 597 partners with affiliated organizations including The American Legion Auxiliary, The Sons of the American Legion, and the American Legion Riders. The Post is one of the largest and fastest-growing American Legion Posts in North Texas and serves a large communityin Dallas and Denton counties. Each year, we conduct numerous programs that benefit local veterans, their families, and the community. Programs include Toys for Tots, Patriot Paws, Girls State, Boys State, High School Oratorical contests just to name a few.Through its members, Post 597 pledges itself “to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and principles of true Americanism, for the common welfare of the living and the solemn commemoration of those who die that Liberty might not perish from the Earth.”The American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans. The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, service members, and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States.
