Join us for an inspiring and informative evening with Mark Lyford, Sustrans Active Travel Officer for Reading & Bracknell.
🚦 School Streets: Safer Roads for Young Lives
Mark will provide an update on the Reading Borough Council (RBC) School Streets programme, which transforms roads outside schools into pedestrian-friendly zones during peak drop-off and pick-up times.
With six School Streets currently in operation—covering 10 schools (eight primary and two secondary)—this initiative aims to create safer, healthier environments for children and families.
Are they making a difference? Come and find out.
☕ Refreshments Break
Enjoy a short break with light refreshments and a chance to chat with fellow attendees.
🚴♂️ Pilgrimage on Two Wheels
After the break, Mark will share stories and insights from his Camino bike ride, starting right here in Reading. Follow his journey along the historic St James pilgrimage route, from Reading Abbey to Southampton—a 68.5-mile (110-kilometre) path once walked by medieval pilgrims, now officially recognised as part of the Camino Inglés in the UK.
🗺️ National Cycle Network Update
To wrap up the evening, Mark will provide the latest updates on the National Cycle Network (NCN) in Reading and the Thames Valley.
Please let us know if you can join us by emailing: c2VjcmV0YXJ5IHwgcmVhZGluZ2N5Y2xlY2FtcGFpZ24gISBvcmcgISB1aw==
We will be meeting in Room 3 at RISC. Please enter the building from the rear. Secure bike parking available.
