The Queer and Now Workshop w/ Roland Mechanik & Mariah Munoz (S3 25)

In this workshop, LGBTQIA+ improvisers are encouraged to bring their real-life experiences to the table and share stories with other quer folks to inspire honest, grounded improv scenes. Through a series of exercises and in-depth scenework, Mariah and Roland will create an environment where everyone’s voice matters. Now more than ever, queer people need safe spaces where they can feel comfortable to be themselves, try new things, and fail spectacularly!

Instructors Mariah and Roland–performers and teachers at Kickstand Comedy in Portland, OR–believe there is real value in bringing your unique point of view to improv. Mariah brings a grounded reality to scenes while encouraging students to get out of their comfort zone and take up space. Roland loves to bring out each student’s unique personality and enjoys side coaching to guide students on their path to truthful, funny scenes. They founded Portland’s first all-queer improv team, Queer Ye Queer Ye–a team known for their meta style and inherently gay point of view. Together they make up the duo No Sex and the City and host/produce Small Fruits, a monthly queer improv show at Kickstand.
