Two Hour Transport/Clarion West Outdoor Open-Mic Reading

Join the Two Hour Transport and Clarion West writing communities on Saturday, July 26, 2025, for an open-mic reading at Seattle’s Magnuson Park Amphitheater. Arrive from 4:30–4:55 pm for the open-mic signup, or by 5 pm for the start of the show. We’ll have a canopy and sound system for the readers. The amphitheater’s built-in seating is mostly sunny; if that’s a concern, you are welcome to bring camp chairs or blankets and sit the shade at the side of the stage.
NOTE: Open-mic reading opportunities at this outdoor event will be in-person only; our online readings will resume in August. (If you are interested in viewing a livestream of the July 26 park event, please email your request to ZXZlbnRzIHwgQ2xhcmlvbldlc3QgISBvcmc=. We’re working to see if we can set up a livestream.)
Please join us on the 26th—and consider reading! We’d love to hear you, even if we’ve heard the story before, even if you haven’t written a single word during the past year, even if you haven’t made it to the Zoom events, even if you just want to drop by with friends and listen to some great SF/F work.
SCHEDULE
4:30-4:55 pm PDT—Open-Mic Signups (16+ slots, five minutes each).
5-6 pm—Intro and Open Mic Readings
6–6:10 pm—Break
6:10–7 pm—More Open-Mic Readings
REMINDERS FOR ATTENDEES
Please wear a mask. We ask attendees to wear masks when not performing. Readers may choose to remove their masks (for better amplification and lip reading) during their performance. The mask policy is for everyone’s safety—some community members are immunocompromised and can’t risk exposure to respiratory illnesses. (We’ll have some extra masks on hand.)
Practice social distancing. Please keep a 6-foot distance from people—unless the other person says it’s okay to be closer. Some of our community members have health issues you might not be aware of, so a rejection of a hug or closer presence is not a rejection of you!
Leave alcohol at home. You are most welcome to bring food and non-alcoholic drinks to the park but our permit strictly prohibits alcohol. Keep in mind that some of us are likely to head to a local bar with outdoor seating after the event, so if you want to drink with other writers and catch up, there will be an opportunity for that—just not at the park.
GUIDELINES FOR READERS
Readings are 5 minutes in length. We request that readers present only original material and do not read material that has been written with, or by, AI.
If we are able to stream the event on Zoom, the stream will not be recorded. All the same, if you are an in-person reader and would rather not appear on Zoom, just let us know and we’ll mute the stream, giving our Zoom audience a scenic view of the community garden during your reading.
PARKING AND TRANSIT
Visit our blog post ( https://twohourtransport.wordpress.com/2025/07/08/two-hour-transport-clarion-west-open-mic-reading-at-magnuson-park-amphitheater-sat-july-26-5-7-pm-pdt/) to see a map of Magnuson Park with the amphitheater location marked in red. This map drawn by Lisa Bade shows how to find the amphitheater from the Sand Point Way NE entrance. There are two options for parking:
Amphitheater Parking (just North of the amphitheater). Amphitheater parking is behind “The Brig” (also known as Parks and Rec Building 406). From NE 74th St (within Magnuson Park), look for signs for “The Brig.” At the first four-way stop, turn left from NE 74th onto 63rd Ave. NE. When you see the cyclone fence, turn right (in front of the fence) and follow that unmarked roadway into the amphitheater parking lot.
Overflow (Main) Parking (South of the amphitheater). If you prefer to park in the main parking lot to the south of the amphitheater, follow the main drive (NE 74th St) straight through to either the first or second four-way stop. You’ll see the large overflow parking lot on your right. (If you get to the dog park parking, you’ve gone too far!) Once you’ve parked in the main lot, head North on foot. Take the paved footpath, cross NE 74th at the crosswalk, and follow the paved path through the woods and past the Children’s Garden to the amphitheater.
Arriving by bus?
The 62 and 75 bus lines stop right outside the main entrance to the park, at NE 74th and Sand Point Way NE.
Inside the park, look for the sandwich boards with arrows and event info.
