Honoring the second summer and peak harvest season through moving choreography taught by SolโAura Pearl.
What to expect overall:
Vibes...
Welcoming and nurturing atmosphere, on the first day of class we will share names and pronouns and one simple word to represent our relationship with dance. All genders welcome. This will be brief! Soma means body and it's the word that we use for the cell bodies in the nervous system. In dance we tune into somatic awareness to move and bring a more complete consciousness to our movement. When we move our joints we generate production of synovial fluid which then enhances their mobility over time. Intelligent and structurally integral frequent movement of the joints empowers their longevity and healthy function! The more I learn about the science of how our bodies work the more amazed I am at how naturally amazing Belly Dance is for us.
What to expect technically:
This series is designed as a mixed level course that still accommodates and nurtures the absolute beginner. We will focus on the more undulating serpentine aspects of fusion belly dance. Thorough breakdown of belly rolls, snake arms and some variations, the many ways we utilize figure 8s in our dance and so much more. We will learn and practice exercises that help us enhance joint mobility and stability as well as explore how to find these strange little muscles that must be activated to effectively perform isolated movement so crucial to accomplishing the ethereal movement quality associated with this dance form.
Flow:
1) warm up
2) movement and technique practice
3) focus on choreography combo to apply techniques explored
4) supported group improvisation to integrate everything on a more primal level
5) cool down
