Lowestoft Maritime Museum is pleased to announce that they will be hosting Suffolk Archives’ latest pop-up exhibition. This follows our successful Fisher Girls exhibition which was last year’s Heritage Open Days highlight at Lowestoft Maritime Museum.
Entitled ‘Following the Fish’, the upcoming exhibition tells the stories of the Herring Fisher Girls and their vital importance to our national maritime history. Between 1850 and 1950, these women left the Western Isles to travel north to Caithness then down the Scottish coast into England, travelling hundreds of miles, following the herring fishing fleets; Lowestoft playing a significant part in their role.
The exhibition is touring these same areas and will be on site at the Lowestoft Maritime Museum at no additional charge – usual museum entry charges apply.
Free parking in Whapload Road alongside the museum or car park opposite. Disabled access. WC available.
