Join us for the opening of Dr Sue Kneebone’s solo exhibition The Last Tide Waiter, on Tuesday 5 August 6-8pm.

The Last Tide Waiter is the culmination of years of historical research and artistic creation. Exploring the life and circumstances of a 19th century ancestor working as a tide waiter on the remote island of Mauritius, Sue Kneebone reimagines a warehouse of forgotten goods and strange regalia reflecting the social and environmental repercussions of imperial conflict, commerce and trade as an unending current circulating across the oceans into the present.

Sue Kneebone is the 2025 SALA Feature Artist, and the subject of the forthcoming Wakefield Press monograph, to be launched in August by SALA Festival.

Exhibition dates: Tuesday 29 July – Friday 5 September

Exhibition text written by 2021 BVA (Hons) graduate Amanda Seacombe.

Also opening on this night is student exhibition Encircle, installed in our Teaching + Studios Building ground floor.

The Last Tide Waiter is generously supported by The Government of South Australia through Create SA.
