About the Hike -----------------------------------------
Join the Hike Club for our August outing with a theme on the Sudbury Regreening Programme. This hike, led by the Rainbow Routes Association in conjunction with VETAC (Sudbury’s Regreening Advisory Panel), highlights the transition of Coniston into a green community with 50 years of landscape regreening.
Come join us on Saturday August 2, 2025 as we explore the Jane Goodall Reclamation Trail, the old Coniston Cemetery and Jean-Tellier Trail. Expect to hear about how the Sudbury Regreening Programme operates, as well as looking at the landscape outcomes.
Following the hike there will be a social get together at the Colonial Inn in Coniston, a historical landmark. Lunch will be available for purchase. To help staffing at the Inn the please indicate your attendance on the registration form.
Hike Details -------------------------------------------------
When: Saturday August 2 2025 from 9:45 AM - 12:00 PM (please arrive 10 minutes early), followed by an optional social event at the Colonial Inn
Meeting place: We will be meeting at the Jane Goodall Reclamation Trail, corner of Garson-Coniston Road and Highway 17
Parking: Parking is available at the Jane Goodall Reclamation Trail, corner of Garson-Coniston Road and Highway 17
Trail: Jane Goodall Reclamation Trail, Old Cemetery Trail, Jean-Tellier Trail, some streets of Coniston
Trail Surface: Wood chip surface, natural, paved
Length: 5 km
Dress: A good pair of closed toed walking shoes is recommended. Dress appropriate for the weather, and don't forget to bring your water!!
Duration: 2.25 hours
Difficulty: Easy
Hike Type: Medium paced with stops
