Beloved in Sweden, but seldom heard in the U.S., Lars-Erik Larsson’s A God Disguised comprises the centerpiece of this program. The cantata tells the story of an episode in the life of the god Apollo, when for a short time he lived on earth as a shepherd. Another shepherd-god is the focus of Vaughan Williams’ dramatic Five Mystical Songs, also heard on this program.
