Linda McLean is a singer and writer of songs and books. She has released several albums including Betty's Room and No Language, both of which garnered critical acclaim internationally. Her short story “Dreaming Margaret Atwood” won the Nova Scotia Writes Award for Creative Non-Fiction, and she’s the author of several books, including A Guide to Your Creative Genius, reflections and contemplation from her decades of teaching in the creative arts. Like her songs, McLean’s memoir The Importance of Being Important is gutsy and real. Born to an immigrant family, raised in poverty and neglect, she tells the heartbreaking consequences of bad choices and the struggle to reclaim her creative life. McLean was 40 before she released her first two albums and toured internationally. When she’s not touring or playing with her band, Linda McLean & The Awakening, Linda writes, gardens and lives in rural Nova Scotia, Canada with her husband Andy.
