Alex Ross Perry comes to the Dryden Theatre: Pavements

In 1999 influential indie rock band Pavement broke up due to the stresses of touring and living up to competing expectations. In 2022, four contemporaneous projects are launched: a reunion tour by the band, an exhibition tracing the band’s history, a jukebox stage musical featuring their songs, and a film project featuring actors such as Joe Keery, Jason Schwartzman, and Griffin Newman. Director Alex Ross Perry captures all of these events, leading up to the opening and performances of all four, as he explores the lasting legacy of the band and the difficulties of capturing the ineffable essence of a movement. Pavements shows the myriad reflections of a time and place through various mediums, as they sometimes overlap and compete against one another. (Alex Ross Perry, US 2024, 128 min., DCP)
