This practical workshop offers an overview of best practices in grant writing for Canadian film funding programs. Designed for emerging and mid-career filmmakers, it provides insight into crafting persuasive applications that effectively highlight the artistic and social value of your work.

Participants will learn how to:
=Develop a clear and compelling artistic statement.
=Clarify the central themes of their project.
=Effectively communicate urgency and personal stakes: "Why this project, why you, why now?".
=Navigate the nuances between collaboration and consultation in storytelling.

An award-winning filmmaker, Jason Karman holds an MFA in Film Production and Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. His films center on Asian diaspora and LGBTQ+ narratives and have screened at international festivals, including Clermontโ€“Ferrand and BFI Flare. His debut feature, โ€œGolden Deliciousโ€, was supported by Telefilm Canada and screened at 62 festivals globally, earning 14 awards. He is a Directing Member of the Directors Guild of Canada and teaches Film Directing and Queer Cinema at Capilano University.
