Emancipation Day marks the anniversary of the Slavery Abolition Act coming into effect on August 1, 1834, which freed enslaved people across most of the British Empire, including Canada.

Join us on Friday, August 1 for a day of remembrance, reflection and celebration of the strength, culture and contributions of Black communities in Kingston and beyond.

11:30 a.m. - Flag-raising ceremony with remarks and community performances.

12:30 - 3 p.m. - Community services fair featuring local organizations.

Both events take place at Confederation Park, with a rainy-day location in Memorial Hall, Kingston City Hall.
