Bookface Sip & Swap with John Niven on Saturday 27 September

John Niven visited Bookface two years ago with O Brother, his powerful bestselling memoir about the life and death of his younger brother Gary. This time, heβs back with The Fathers, a sharp, darkly funny novel exploring fatherhood, masculinity, and class.
Born in Irvine, Ayrshire, Niven studied English Literature at the University of Glasgow, graduating with first-class honours. He spent a decade in the music industry before turning to writing full-time. His breakout novel K*ll Your Friends (2008) was a savage satire of his A&R days and went on to become a cult bestseller.
His fiction spans genres β from comedies like The Sunshine Cruise Company to thrillers like Cold Hands β but itβs all shot through with his trademark wit and bite. Alongside novels, Niven writes screenplays with his writing partner Nick Ball and has contributed journalism to Q and The Independent.
In The Fathers, Niven returns to fiction with the story of two very different dads β one a successful screenwriter, the other a small-time Glaswegian criminal β thrown together by chance outside a maternity ward. Like all his best work, itβs sharp, unpredictable and impossible to pigeonhole.

The monthly sold-out Bookface events are an opportunity for budding authors and avid readers to pick the brains of successful authors and enjoy an uplifting event with people who love great books.
Guests are encouraged to bring four books to participate in the sustainable book swap where there are 300 titles to choose from. This is not necessary as we understand many people prefer Kindle or audio formats.
Previous guest authors at our events include Lisa Jewell, Alan Parks, John Niven, Davinia Taylor, Chris Brookmyre, Val McDermid, Susannah Constantine, Dr Gillian Shirreffs, Nikki May, Fran Littlewood, Heather Morris and more.
