Join us for a hybrid Broad Discovery Series talk, "Arthritis, autoimmunity, and how the genome works."

Date: Thursday, August 14, 2025 6:00 pm (ET)

Rheumatoid arthritis arises from an immune system that's turned against its host. But it also provides an opportunity to peer into the inner workings of the genome and see how tiny changes to our DNA can have an outsized impact on how our cells and tissues work. Join rheumatologist and computational biologist Soumya Raychaudhuri as he describes how the genetics of autoimmunity and arthritis risk are helping scientists connect the dots between genetic variation, gene function, and disease β€” and what that means for rheumatoid arthritis patients now and in the future.

Speaker:

Soumya Raychaudhuri
Institute Member

Director of the Center for Data Sciences and JS Coblyn MB Brenner Distinguished Chair in Rheumatology/Immunology
Brigham and Women’s Hospital

Professor of medicine and biomedical informatics
Harvard Medical School

This Broad Discovery Series talk will be held both in person and virtually. Those joining us in person are invited to a reception after the talk.

The Broad Discovery Series is a program of the Broad Discovery Center, an active, public educational space that showcases how researchers at the Broad Institute and their colleagues around the world are tackling some of the toughest questions in biomedicine, gaining a deeper understanding of human health and disease, and translating that insight into new approaches for treatments.
