Back-to-School BBQ Bash

We are excited to host our third annual Burton Academy Back to School Barbecue Bash on Thursday evening, August 7 at 6:30 pm on our campus! We’re inviting all Burton families, area church members, friends of Burton, and families wanting to share in the fun and check out what Burton has to offer! The night will be highlighted by bounce houses, lawn games, cotton candy, tons of food and fun for the whole family, and of course the third annual Brisket Cook-off Challenge (because hey… it’s Texas Y’all!) and new this year… the “Best Plate” competition (because hey… not everyone eats brisket!). Home & School will be providing hot dogs/veggie dogs, drinks and ice pops for all to enjoy!
This year, we are remixing the competition and moving to a Team-based event, with competing pit masters submitting both the brisket and the sides (one hot side and one cold side) for judging. After pit masters submit their plates for judging, they’ll then begin serving brisket, sides and other prepared food of their choosing for all to enjoy (as long as it lasts anyway!). There will be something for everyone, with vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian options! This is an event you won't want to miss as we ring in the new school year and enjoy a community-wide barbecue!
Teams competing will setup around the blacktop, with the general “potluck” style food being served in the gym. We ask that all who are able please bring a favorite family barbecue dish to contribute to the food options for all to enjoy! For those interested in competing, please review the rules and register here:

If you would like to compete by submitting side dishes but you don’t cook brisket, we encourage you to find a pit master/brisket chef to partner with and form a team!
We’ll see you at the bash!
