A Fish Ecology Workshop with the River Institute

The River Institute take you on an exciting journey into the diverse world of fish that live below the surface of the St. Lawrence River.
Dive into the world of fish ecology in this hands-on FREE workshop! Through discussion, field sampling and analysis methods, participants will learn about many local fish species including their significance and how to identify them using key characteristics. There will be a focus on native and invasive species. Participants may have the opportunity to collect field samples by using seine nets or gill nets to catch fish, as well as learn fish processing skills, how to measure and weigh a fish, how to record field notes and how to use an ID guide.
A River Institute crew will be catching fish on the boat using gillnets, and this will be broadcast in the auditorium. Plus, watch the River Institute crew in action as they catch fish from the boat, streamed live in the auditorium!
Recommended for all ages.
