The federal government must take action and declare this devastating crisis a national disaster. Instead, Labor’s response has been to reject an appeal by scientists for extra funding to deal with the ecological catastrophe.
State Environment Minister Susan Close has indicated that marine heatwaves caused by climate change is one of the factors that have exacerbated the natural occurrence of the algae, but that we are “helpless in the force of nature”. But we are not helpless!
