Odissi by Dr. Prachi Jariwala

A Perspective – Drishtikon is a series of lecture-demonstrations to promote classical dance forms of India. It is held by the Museum Society of Mumbai with generous support from the NCPA and K.V. Mariwala Philanthropy Initiative on the 60th anniversary of the society. This month, Odissi exponent Dr. Prachi Jariwala will give an insightful lecture-demonstration on this dance form.

An accomplished dancer, Dr. Prachi Jariwala had her initial training in Bharatanatyam under Kalashri Dr. Latha Surendran. She then progressed to the Odissi dance form under Guru Smt. Daksha Mashruwala and has been blessed by lessons under the legendary Padma Vibhushana Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. An ICCR empanelled dancer, she holds a bachelor’s, master’s and PhD in Ancient Indian Culture. She has performed in various Museums across the country and internationally. She has acted in an art film named ‘Humari Beti’ where she played the role of an Odissi dancer, which was premiered in the Chicago World Film Festival 2006.
