Creative Open Day

We’re teaming up with artists, Teddy Godwin and Anne Odeke, for a hands-on workshop that explores Southend’s rich and layered history through sound and map-making.
Together, we’ll be delving into the fascinating life of Princess Dinubolu, a historical figure whose presence in Southend raises questions about migration, identity, and cultural memory. We’ll be mapping her imagined journey through Southend, considering what the landscape might have looked and felt like for her, and how it resonates with us today.
Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to collect and curate soundscapes from the local area, blending the past with the present, design and translate maps, combining historical routes with modern-day Southend and weave your own stories into the narrative, creating a shared, speculative landscape rooted in both memory and place
This is a unique chance to creatively explore how personal histories and local events intertwine, and to reimagine Southend through sound and visual storytelling.
This is a free drop-in workshop - you can stay for 20 minutes or you can stay the full day. You are welcome to turn up whenever suits best between the times of 11am to 3pm. All ages and abilities welcomed.
