Join PacSci for a screening of Gattaca, a gripping sci-fi thriller that explores the question – How much of our destiny is written in our DNA? In a world where genetic engineering determines one’s potential, Vincent (Ethan Hawke), an “In-Valid,” dreams of traveling to space. To make that dream a reality, he assumes the identity of a genetically elite individual. Just as he’s on the verge of success, a murder within the Gattaca Aerospace Corporation threatens to expose his secret—and unravel everything he’s worked for.

Following the screening, stay for a panel discussion with experts from Fred Hutch Cancer Center as they delve into the real science behind the story—from gene editing and personalized medicine to the ethics of reproductive technology and genetic discrimination. This discussion will include time for audience Q&A.
