Poetry on the Lawn: A Tri-Monthly Generative Poetry Workshop w/ Heather Lang-Cassera

Write in community! Sponsored by the Northern Arizona Book Festival, local poets and writers will teach an accessible poetry workshop on the northwest lawn of the Downtown Flagstaff-Coconino Public Library! Each workshop focuses on a topic or form and challenges you to write on the spot in community with other writers. Please bring a blanket or folding chair to sit on, writing materials, and yourself! There is no age limit and we welcome all writers at any level.

Nature and Ecopoetry

Through poetry prompts, we’ll explore the natural world including the human connection to our surroundings. Together we'll contemplate how poetry devices and poetic forms might reflect the rhythms of particular landscapes.

Heather Lang-Cassera served as the 2019-2021 Clark County, Nevada Poet Laureate and was a 2022 Nevada Arts Council Literary Arts Fellow. She is the Poetry Editor for Black Fox Literary Magazine, on Editorial Staff with Raleigh Review, and teaches Creative Writing at Nevada State University. Her newest collection of poems, Firefall (Unsolicited Press, 2025), was written with the support of a Nevada Arts Council project grant.
