Tony Oladipo Allen was a Nigerian-Ghanaian drummer, composer, and songwriter. As the drummer and musical director of Fela Kutiโs Africa โ70 from 1968 to 1979, Allen played a pivotal role in the creation of Afrobeat โ rooted in Highlife, funk, and jazz.
