This summer marks the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea. This was the Church’s first “ecumenical council“, that is a gathering of bishops from around the world. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, this council gave us the Creed (Profession of Faith) which we still recite each Sunday. Msgr. Jeffrey Steenson pursued doctoral studies on the early Church at Oxford University. He will explain the key passages of the Creed—both what they mean and how they were carefully formulated after much debate on the nature of the Trinity. Join us in reflecting on the meaning of this ancient prayer which so perfectly encapsulates our faith.
