Calling all bookworms! Ballard Preschool Co-op (BPC) is thrilled to present its monthly Ballard Bookworms story time, a free community program for children and their caregivers. Join BPC's beloved Teacher Christine for a fun and engaging story time experience designed to spark a love of reading and build connections within our community. In the upcoming 2025-26 school year, Christine is teaching, the Infants Class, the 3-5s/Pre-K Class, the Mixed Age Class (MAC) and one of our NEW OUTDOOR CLASSES Mini Explorers.
Our special guest for the month is Sam Kelly of The Art Room, which offers sensory play and open-ended, child-led art classes. https://mailchi.mp/98fb995c7af9/theartroom
The event will be hosted from the band stage in the Ballard Locks’ Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden. Caregivers are encouraged to bring blankets as guests will be sitting on the grassy lawn. Should it rain, the event will be moved inside to the Visitor Center.
While you are out and about for Ballard Bookworms, what else can you and your little(s) explore?
- Ballard Locks: Watch boats come and go as the locks fill and release water.
- Fish Ladder & Salmon Education Center: Marvel at species of Pacific Salmon making their way through the fish ladder. Peak viewing for Sockeye salmon occur from mid-June to mid-July. Sockeye runs have been declining over the years and numbers vary widely (recent average around 25,000 per year).
- Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden: Stroll around the beautiful gardens. Can you find flowers for each color of the rainbow?
- Locks Visitor Center, Museum, and Gift Shop: Once a blacksmith shop, now a hub for education, the visitor center is open on Sundays from 10 am - 6 pm
- Ballard Farmers Market (9 am - 2 pm)
- National Nordic Museum (10 am - 5 pm)
