Filmmaker, cook and (spicy?) condiment enthusiast Alex Schuurbiers welcomes you to an evening of ancestral echoes, inspired by the writings of Irene Solà. Artist Elien Verschueren will invite you to meet the people that came before us by way of visualisation, and after dinner with the coven we’ll watch films by Laure Prouvost, Alba Bresolí, Onyeka Igwe and Samuel M. Delgado & Helena Girón. All of it born of rock and root, steeped in mystery and feminine power.

Women of different ages and backgrounds meet in the mountainous landscape outside Marseille. In a cave overlooking the land, they gather to perform a ritual of thanksgiving addressed to their own mothers.
The Good Omen, Alba Bresoli, 2024, 13’
A stone lies in a drying, forsaken soil just outside Barcelona. A group of women covers it with a red shroud. The last shepherd of the city grazes the sheep that will protect the stone with their wool. A symbiosis occurs amid the ever-nearing chimes of change on the mountain overlooking the city.

Invoking a lineage of female ancestors through embodiment, gesture and the archive, Her Name in My Mouth reimagines the Aba Women’s War, a major anti-colonial uprising in Nigeria.

Since airplanes did not exist, people moved around using prayers. They went from one land to another and returned early, before dawn. In old audio recordings, the voices of pastors speak of the mythical existence of witches and their travels. In the daily life of a woman the magic of her tales begin to materialize as night falls. Night is the time when travel is possible.
