Born in Hong Kong, writer-director Sam Luk has been contributing to the Canadian film industry since 2009. He focuses on making narrative films about inner landscapes, exploring the poetic nature of memory and the imagination under the mutability of spacetime and identity. His first short film, INVINCIBLE SPRING, was inducted into the permanent film catalogue at ARTos Cultural and Research Foundation in Nicosia, Cyprus. His second short film, YOU ARE MY PRESENT, was screened at Maremetraggio in 2016 and picked up distribution to Amazon Prime through Hewes Pictures. The rest of his work is now distributed by the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre. Sam is also credited as a finishing editor for the broadcast series THE WILD CANADIAN YEAR produced by CBCโ€™s THE NATURE OF THINGS and the animated feature film WINDOW HORSES produced by the NFB. In 2021, one of Sam's dramatic feature scripts was shortlisted at the Whistler Film Festival Screenwriterโ€™s Lab. In 2024, Sam received production funding from Canada Council for the Arts for his first feature project as writer-director.
