BIG is BACK!

Cineworks is pleased to present the return of ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜† ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ต!, an analog photography workshop led by award-winning photographer, filmmaker and visual effects artist Jesse Andrewartha.

This workshop is a rare opportunity to engage with a super large format analog photo camera (20x24in, no less!), one of the few such cameras in Vancouver! Each participant in the workshop will have the opportunity to use this legendary camera to create what is essentially a camera original that has giga pixel quality. For comparison, 20x24 is -350- times larger than the standard 35mm frame.

Under Jesseโ€™s guidance, you will learn:
-How to load the camera.
-Lighting and filtration techniques.
-Selecting the right lens.
-Learn about the Reversal RA-4 process (a cost-effective method to producing large and detailed images).

As this is a live, โ€œinstant,โ€ camera, it will create an 20 by 24 (inch!) image in real time. If you have a beautiful picture that youโ€™d like to take of someone or something meaningful, now is the time. Bring the subject of your photograph to our Black Box studio for the workshop. The photograph that you create may very well be the finest example that you have ever witnessed.

Jesse Andrewartha is an award-winning photographer, filmmaker and visual effects artist based in Vancouver, Canada. He specializes in obscure darkroom techniques using analogue ultra-large format cameras, hybrid processes and 16mm and 35mm motion picture film. Jesseโ€™s work uses the photographic image to examine the collision between humankind and the physical world. To capture these unique stories, Andrewartha has travelled to remote destinations in northern North America and advanced the limits of historical processes by utilizing novel techniques and fabricating custom photographic equipment.

He is active in the Vancouver analogue film community, having shown work at festivals such as the Capture Photography Festival and Vancouver Art Gallery. He is a recipient of a 2018 Explore & Create grant from the Canada Council of the Arts for โ€œTransmutations,โ€ his most recent series of works on Uranium in North America, and a Board Member of the Atomic Photographers Guild, an international photographic collective dedicated to making visible all facets of the nuclear age.
