Willie Bays is a jazz saxophonist hailing from Olympia, Washington. He began his studies on the saxophone at the age of 12 and was first introduced to jazz in the Seattle public schools. He was a member of Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and of the Vail Jazz Workshop. He currently attends Indiana University, where he studied with Tom Walsh for two years and currently studies with Chicago-based Greg Ward. He is currently a member of IU’s Plummer Jazz Quintet. Some recent highlights include a set at the Detroit Jazz Festival with fellow IU students (Flash Point Quintet), Carmel Jazz Festival, and an appearance with Seattle-based Jazz Overhaul. Bays is primarily interested in modal jazz and jazz fusion.

Bassist Moe Weisner brings his acoustic modern jazz trio for the first set of the night, with Andrew Friedrich on guitar and Chris Icasiano on drums. This group plays a mix of original tunes by Moe and Andrew as well as tunes by Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Thelonious Monks, and Alice in Chains.
