Do you dare to take on the challenge? We're offering a handful of brave people a rare chance to abseil down Penshaw Monument under the expert guidance of outdoor activity specialists Pinpoint Adventure.
It's all for a good cause; you'll be helping us maintain this iconic North East landmark, monitor local wildlife and repair footpaths and fencing. We'll provide you with a sponsorship form and, by raising a minimum of £90, you play your part in looking after Penshaw and the surrounding area to benefit people and wildlife.

Please wear trousers e.g. leggings or tracksuit bottoms (no jeans or shorts please). Warm clothes, a waterproof jacket and trousers and trainers are advised. Further info will be supplied on booking.
Penshaw Monument abseil is a significant undertaking. The abseil is 22m/70ft, and involves a completely free hanging descent. You will need to be able to step over the wall at the top (approximately 1.4m high) and then be able to rotate your hips and legs over the edge of the monument. The harnesses will fit up to 105cm/41inch around the waist and 70cm/27inch around the legs.
