Some of the tracks from this debut album by singer Alison Goldfrapp and multi-instrumentalist/arranger Will Gregory were seemingly inescapable upon its release a scarcely believable 25 years ago.
The likes of ‘Lovely Head’, ‘Pilots’ and ‘Utopia’ were plundered by countless TV shows, film soundtracks and adverts of the time for their kooky, yet approachable sonics, belying how singularly odd Felt Mountain itself actually is.
If you’re only familiar with Goldfrapp from their subsequent reinvention as purveyors of steely electro-glam, then take it from us that their first outing – with its John Barry homages, desolately mournful strings, vampish takes on the Weimar-era cabaret tradition and lush, turn-of-the-Millenium pop – is well worth revisiting.
The album playback will be followed by a Q&A session.
After a short break, we'll follow the album with our usual ‘Dead Wax’ session. Bring along a vinyl disc of your choice and hear a track from it played through the Arts Centre PA. This can be anything you like, for any reason – the more ‘out there’ the better.
