30th Anniversary Screening!
This July, grab your childhood bestie and bike over to the Revue for a 30th anniversary screening of Leslie Linka Glatter’s coming-of-age dramedy Now & Then hosted by We Really Like Her!
Featuring an all-star, multigenerational cast (Gaby Hoffman, Demi Moore, Christina Ricci, Rosie O'Donnell, Thora Birch, Melanie Griffith, Ashleigh Aston Moore and Rita Wilson), Now & Then alternates between 1970 and 1995. In the past, a group of four tweens navigate puberty and summertime sadness while living very different lives in a suburban subdivision. In the "present" day, their grownup counterparts reminisce about those fateful few months, coming to terms with how they've grown together and apart.
Now & Then is often compared to Stand By Me. And yes, much like its male-centric predecessor, Now & Then has an era-appropriate soundtrack and an earnest approach to friendship. But thanks to the nostalgic direction and the funny, yet heartbreaking screenplay by I. Marlene King (who would go on to create Pretty Little Liars), it stands as its own, uniquely girl-powered entity (cue the seance side plot.) (EMILY GAGNE + DANITA STEINBERG)
