Kelsey Michael with The Happy Couple

Penzance based singer-songwriter Kelsey Michael launched her sea-soaked album ‘Lethowsow’ at Penlee Park last summer: ‘Beguiling debut…infused with natural wonder’ UNCUT magazine.

This year she brings new piano songs, and a stripped-down line-up which puts voice and vocal harmony centre-stage. Kelsey’s immersive performances conjure up cinematic images of West Cornwall’s landscape, flora and wildlife. Language and folk-lore spark together, firing up stories rooted in nature.

You may find yourself tapping your feet to the beat of a butterfly’s wings or watching a heron foraging by moonlight.‘The sea, washes over and through both lyrics and rhythms with a hypnotic swell and fall.. gentle and captivating these are kind songs to ease troubled times’ RnR magazine.
You’ll find Kelsey on many a High Llamas album, and on Jocelyn Pook’s soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Eyes Wide Shut.’ Her music has featured on BBC6 Music’s Radcliffe Maconie and Gilles Peterson show. More info at kelseymichael.com

Judith Goodman and David Ross are The Happy Couple, and make music inspired by their home in the Yare Valley on the Norfolk Broads. Their peaceful and profound album ‘Lullaby of Broadland’ (Dimple Discs Bandcamp) describes the starry night skies reflected in the watery landscape, murmurations and micro-worlds. Judith plays lap steel and tenor guitar. David is a virtuoso on mouth bow and Jew’s harp. The Happy Couple have featured on Cerys Mathews’ show, Sam Lee’s ‘Singing with Nightingales’, Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone and the Riley and Coe show on BBC6 music.
