Write in community! Sponsored by the Northern Arizona Book Festival, local poets and writers will teach an accessible poetry workshop on the lawn of the Downtown Flagstaff-Coconino Public Library! Each workshop focuses on a topic or form and challenges you to write on the spot in community with other writers. Please bring a blanket or folding chair to sit on, writing materials, and yourself! There is no age limit and we welcome all writers at any level.
A Prose Poetry Workshop
In this introductory workshop on prose poetry, we will explore what this deceptive form is and what makes it so much fun! As it is hybrid by nature, we will look specifically at how to emphasize rhythm in poetic storytelling through devices such as consonance and assonance, repetition and rhyme while working to generate the beginnings of your very own paragraph(s) of poetry, or prose poem.
Carson Redmon (she/her/hers) graduated with Honors from Northern Arizona University, receiving her BA in English with minors in Political Science and Studio Art. Carson is an Assistant Editor for Eggtooth Editions and is currently serving as the Youth Poet Laureate of Flagstaff.
SUMMER SUNDAYS:
May 25th; June 1st, 22nd, 29th;
July 6th, 20th, 27th;
August 3rd, 17th, 31st
