Collegiate Shag Dance Practice

This is a practice space to work on collegiate shag. Bring questions, a move you'd like help with, smooth out your basic, practice a different role, or learn the basic (lead and/or follow). No experience or partner required. Come find out how fun, relaxed, creative, and amazing collegiate shag is!!

If you're not sure what to work on, still grab your dance shoes and come on out. We'll teach you the basic (lead and/or follow) as well as a couple moves to take with you on the dance floor. Music will start at around 160-165 bpm and can be bumped up depending on the crowd. Even if you've never danced before, we'll get you dancing in no time flat.

Curious about what collegiate shag is? It's a style of swing dance from the 20's and 30's that's primarily danced to up-tempo and swing styles of music. Part of the swing dance family that came about in the 20s and 30s, the dance originated within the African American community of the Carolinas and later spread across the states during the 1930s. Come out and dance and join us shag enthusiasts!

Partner not required.
No street shoes-dance shoes only on floor.
Bring water (we're gonna keep you shufflin'!).
No practice/entry fee.
There is a small set of stairs up to the building. Please message if you have any questions or need assistance.
