Soapstone Carving Workshop 2 Week Course

Join us for a unique and enriching 2-part Soapstone Carving Workshop led by our in-house carver, Josiah Laiverty. Known for his incredible talent and generous spirit, Josiah not only donates his time to teach, but also gives back a portion of the proceeds from every inukshuk he sells to support youth programming at Gateway & Nick’s Place.
In this hands-on workshop, Josiah will guide participants through the process of transforming raw soapstone into a personalized piece of art. Each participant will receive their own slab of soapstone to carve a project of their choosing—whether it’s a figure, abstract design, or symbolic piece—over the course of two engaging sessions.
All materials and tools are provided, making this an ideal experience for both beginners and those looking to refine their skills. Josiah regularly teaches our youth and parents the art of carving, and this workshop offers a chance to learn from someone deeply connected to both the craft and the community.
Come experience the joy of carving, support a meaningful cause, and take home a one-of-a-kind creation made by your own hands.
