More details:

The idea of being ‘zen’ is associated with calmness, being peaceful, and is attained through meditation.

It is also frequently linked to a belief that it invokes non-thought and ‘emptiness’, an escape from our busy lives full of rumination and self critique.

The concept derives from Buddhism and was widely sought in the 60’s and even today.

In contrast, recent studies involving mindfulness and a deeper understanding of how the brain works suggests the ideas of ‘flow’ is more helpful.

Mindfulness studies identify the Default Mode Network and suggest absence of thought is impossible, but that we can establish a far more positive relationship with our busy minds through mindfulness practice.

Ruth Pilkington, a mindfulness and qigong practitioner for over 10 years, offers a session in which we can play with these ideas and explore zen from the perspective of flow and mindfulness, and take some time to practise these states.

We hope you will join us for a relaxing evening amongst like minded souls!!
