Join us at the GTCELC National English Language Festival 2.0 and embark on a journey of inspiring expression and transformative literary experiences.

This grand festival will take place from 10 to 13 July 2025, with the Prize Giving Ceremony on 24 July 2025, at Govt. Titumir College, Dhaka — making it the biggest event in the club’s history.

With 7 individual events and 1 group event, this year’s festival is packed with opportunities for creativity, competition, and connection!

General Rules:
1.A participant can apply for up to 6 Individual Events and 1 Group Event.
2.All participants must wear their college uniform.
(This rule does not apply to Honours and Master’s participants.)
3.All participants must carry their institutional ID cards at all times during the festival.
4.There is no institutional boundary for group events. Members from different institutions can team up to participate in group-based segments.
5.Any form of cheating or dishonest behavior will lead to immediate disqualification from the event.
6.Under all circumstances, the decision of the authority and the honorable judges will be final and non-negotiable.
7.Only students of Intermediate, Honours, and Master’s levels are eligible to participate.



Individual Events Details:


1. Public Speaking Competition

1.Participants will be provided with a choice of topics to speak on.
2.The topics will be broad and relevant to current affairs, social issues, or language-related subjects. Participants must stay on topic and are discouraged from deviating from the given subject.
3.Each speech should last approximately 3–5 minutes. Participants are advised to plan and structure their speeches effectively within the allotted time.
4.The top 3 to 5 highest scorers from the preliminary round will qualify for the Final Round.
5.Further detailed instructions (such as timing, venue, and judging criteria) will be given shortly before the segment begins.
6.A list of topics will be published on our official Facebook page a few days prior to the event to help participants prepare in advance.


2. Extempore Speech

Participants will be given either a random topic on the spot.
Topics will be broad, thought-provoking, and relevant to current affairs, social issues, or language-related themes. Participants must remain focused on the assigned topic and should not deviate.

1.Speech duration will be 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the competition format. Participants should structure their speeches effectively to stay within the time limit.
2.The top 3 to 5 highest scorers from the selection round will advance to the Final Round.
3.Further instructions and topic details will be provided shortly before the segment begins.


3. English Poem Recitation

1.This segment will be conducted in one offline round, which will also serve as the final round.
2.Participants must recite one selected poem from the official list provided prior to the event.
3.The top 2 highest scorers will be considered winners of this segment.
4.Further detailed instructions regarding the venue, order of performance, and timing will be shared shortly before the start of the segment.

4. Creative Writing Competition

1.The competition will be conducted in one offline selection round, which will also serve as the final round.
2.The top 2 highest scorers will be selected as winners and awarded during the Prize Giving Ceremony.
3.Participants will be given a random topic/picture on the spot.
4.Topic/picture will be broad and relevant to current affairs, social issues, or language-related subjects. Participants must stay focused on the assigned topic/picture and should not deviate.
5.The writing time will be approximately 20–30 minutes. Participants should structure and complete their writing within this duration.
6.Further detailed instructions regarding the rules and format will be provided shortly before the segment begins.


5. Spelling Bee

1.The competition will begin with one offline selection round. In this round, participants will be given 30 MCQ-style questions, each with 4–5 spelling options. You must choose the correct spelling from the choices.
2.Based on the scores, the top 3 to 5 participants will advance to the Final Round.
3.The Final Round will be a competitive buzzer-based session, where the participant who presses the buzzer first will get the chance to answer.
4.The top 2 winners will be officially rewarded based on their performance in the final round.
5.Further detailed instructions (such as time limits, disqualification criteria, and venue details) will be provided shortly before the beginning of the segment.


6. Visual Narration

Segment Title: Visual Narration (Describe a Picture)

Format & Rules:
1.Participants will be shown a picture beforehand, which they need to describe through a narrative.
2.The narrative should be original, engaging, and clearly connected to the image.
3.Each participant will have 3–5 minutes to present their narration.
4.Participants will be judged based on storytelling quality, language accuracy, clarity of expression, and originality and creativity.
5.The top 2 highest scorers will be rewarded at the Prize giving ceremony.

7.Grammar and Vocabulary Competition

The competition will be conducted in one offline selection round, which will also serve as the final round.
1.Participants will receive 40 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each with 4–5 options. You must select the correct answer for each.
2.Quiz Breakdown:
Part 1: Grammar – 25 questions
Part 2: Vocabulary – 15 questions
Total Marks: 50
3.Exam Duration: 30 minutes
4.The top 2 highest scorers will be awarded during the Prize Giving Ceremony.



Group Event Details:


English Debate Competition

Format:
The English Debate Competition will follow the Asian Parliamentary Debate style, which features two teams.
Motion Selection:
A curated list of motions will be selected by the organizing committee. These motions will be announced ahead of the competition, allowing participants time to prepare their arguments in advance.
Speaker Roles:
Each speaker has a designated role and responsibility in presenting and defending their team's case.

a. Proposition Team:
•1st Speaker: Introduces the motion, set parameters, defines key terms, and presents the team’s main arguments.
•2nd Speaker: Expands the arguments, provides evidence, and rebuts the opposing team.
•3rd Speaker: Summarizes the case, reinforces key points, and delivers a strong closing.

b. Opposition Team:
•1st Speaker: Presents the opposition stance, set parameters, rebuts the proposition’s claims, and introduces core arguments.
•2nd Speaker: Develops further arguments, provides evidence, and rebuts the proposition.
•3rd Speaker: Wraps up the opposition’s case, strengthens rebuttals, and closes the debate.
Time Allocation:

Each speaker will be allowed a fixed amount of time:
•1st Speakers (Prop & Opp): 5 minutes
•2nd Speakers (Prop & Opp): 5 minutes
•3rd Speakers (Prop & Opp): 5 minutes

Rebuttals:
After both team’s speakers have spoken, a designated rebuttal session of 3 minutes per team’s leader will be held. This allows teams to challenge and dismantle the opposing case through structured rebuttals.

Points of Information (POIs):
During a speaker's time, the opposing team may offer brief interjections (POIs) to ask questions or challenge points.
•POIs should be brief and respectful.
•Speakers accept POIs, though accepting demonstrates confidence and skill.

Judging Criteria:
A panel of judges will evaluate based on:
•Content (argument strength, relevance, evidence)
•Delivery (clarity, fluency, style)
•Rebuttals (critical thinking, counterarguments)
•Team synergy and overall effectiveness

Rules of Conduct:
•Maintain respectful and professional behavior at all times.
•Personal attacks, discriminatory language, or disruptive behavior will lead to negative marking.
•All debates will be conducted entirely in English.

Timekeeping:
A designated timekeeper will manage all speaking durations and provide time signals. Speakers must adhere to limits to ensure fairness.
