Apex UMC - World Christianity Discussion Group

This six week discussion group will meet on Sunday evenings in the Fellowship Hall at 7 pm starting August 17 and ending October 5 (no classes August 31 and September 28). After World War II, Christianity’s center of gravity shifted from Europe and North America to the nations south of the equator. In 2011 nearly two/thirds of the world’s Christians lived in the global South. There are good reasons to believe that on any given Sunday more people worshipped in Nairobi than in London. Christianity’s constituency also shifted from formally educated white mature males to informally educated dark young females. This radical transition grew from multiple forces, including prosperity, urbanization, migration, education, health care, birth rates, and underlying theological trends. Christians such as ourselves might also see the hand of God at work. This discussion will look at these massive shifts and try to understand why they have taken place and what difference it makes for the future life of the church. The discussion requires no reading, but simply willingness to come, listen, and offer your own unique ideas growing from your own unique life experiences.
