USS or Universal Sacred Sounds is a new world music ensemble dedicated to sacred music from all world traditions. Our current members are multi instrumentalists Mina Salama, Vijay Venkat and Avital Raz and cover Arabic, Jewish and Indian music traditions.
We believe that all genuine spiritual paths lead to the same source just as Indian 16th century poet Tansen says all rivers lead to the sea and seek through music to deepen the ties that bond us as human beings.
USS current members are Avital Raz - Voice, guitar and Tanpura, Vijay Venkat - Bansuri flute and violin and Mina Salama - Oud, Ney, percussion. We are all established musicians in our own right and ex members of the legendary Sheffield World Music band Rafiki Jazz.
