Established in 1996, The Emancipation Marathon is a literary marathon, that commemorates and honors the victims and descendants of American Chattel Slavery. Selections about “that peculiar institution” are read aloud by a diverse sequence of volunteers.

The Emancipation Marathon is structured around four themes within in the context of American Chattel Slavery:
-Slavery the definition
-Slavery the law
-Slavery the human condition
-Slavery the legacy.
