Even after composing the 18 Puranas, the 18 Upa-puranas, Brahma Sutras as well as Mahabharata, Maharishi Veda Vyasa was dissatisfied. Upon advice of Sage Narada, Maharishi Veda Vyasa composed the Bhagavatam and attained supreme satisfaction. The word ‘Bhagavatam’ means “a scripture (shastra) that pertains to the Supreme Lord (Maha Vishnu)”. Consisting of 12 skandas or canto’s, in which every aspect pertaining to the Supreme Lord (Maha Vishnu) has been explained in this Mahā- Purāna or the crown jewel of all Purāṇas.
