Garden Stroll in Upper Monroe

Upper Monroe's "Garden Stroll" idea is a fun, informal program to build connections between neighbors around a love of gardening.

About this Event

Background

There are many neighborhoods around Rochester with lovely gardens that might be considered "garden districts". Upper Monroe certainly considers itself one of those areas. Indeed gardens, parks, wooded trails and even an old growth forest and Rochester's highest peak are all a part of the Upper Monroe neighborhood <MAP LINK>.

Program overview

Interested neighbors who love looking at gardens will gather at 171 Laburnam Crescent for a brief presentation of that garden by the garden's creator and master gardener, Michael Hannen. Then the group will walk to a few other garden locations nearby in Upper Monroe where host gardeners will chat about their gardens and answer questions as well. After seeing a few gardens we'll circle back to 171 Laburnam to talk about ideas for future strolls.

  • The event is FREE and open to the public with reserved tickets.
  • Space is limited to just 35 people.
  • Attendees do NOT have to be members of the Upper Monroe Neighborhood Association.
  • No prior knowledge of gardens or gardening is required.

The organizing team for this program includes: Michael Hannen, Peter House, Kelly Abernethy, Patrick Casey & Rome Celli

The Upper Monroe Neighborhood Association is grateful for the support of the Garden Walk committee of the ABC Streets Neighborhood Association. In particular, UMNA thanks Esther Brill for her engagement on this topic going back to the spring of 2024.
