I Want To Live! A Nu Generation Ensemble Theater Show
About this Event
WombWork Productions Inc., in collaboration with The Shriver Center and The Choice Program at UMBC, proudly presents “I Want to Live”—a citywide Summer Theater Tour bringing arts and healing straight into the heart of Baltimore’s communities.
Born from real stories of survival and triumph, “I Want to Live” weaves together the threads of trauma and healing, violence and peace, despair and unstoppable joy. This youth-led initiative harnesses the transformative power of live performance and storytelling to confront the root causes of violence and drug use—meeting people where they are, from Lakeland to Cherry Hill, from basketball courts to community centers.
At the center of this tour is the Nu Generation Art Ensemble, a collective of youth and young adults (ages 14–21) who have completed an intensive five-week leadership and performance training. With the wisdom of ancestors and the fire of the future, they take the stage to deliver original works that speak truth to power and love to pain.
Each performance is more than a show—it’s a call to action. It's Kuumba (creativity) meets Àṣẹ (transformative energy). It's Ubuntu (interconnection) in motion, healing generations of hurt.
Following every performance, audiences are invited into a powerful community talk-back—a space to reflect, share, and co-create solutions for lasting change.
Audiences will also encounter a vibrant community resource row, featuring local vendors and service providers offering connection, visibility, and support.
This is Baltimore storytelling at its most authentic—unfiltered, uncompromising, and undeniably transformative.
This summer, witness the next generation refuse to just survive. This summer, they choose to LIVE.
Are you ready to live with them?
