Melding Material: Clay & Glass | BKLYN Clay x UrbanGlass
About this Event
In this uniquely designed course, students will explore an exciting exchange between ceramics and glass through the slump molding and fusing process.
At BKLYN CLAY, students will pinch, sculpt, and carve clay vessels, tiles, and one independent project. These forms will serve a dual purpose by acting as a slump mold for fusing sheet glass.
At UrbanGlass students will learn how to cut and assemble sheet glass for melding together in the kiln. This process allows for broad exploration of color, opacity, translucency, and transparency. Glass will be manipulated with gravity and temperature to change the final shape of the object, adding texture and dimension to the composition.
Once the glass is slumped into the molds the clay will be glazed to make a separate finished object. This experimental process allows the exciting opportunity to see projects completed in both ceramic and glass!
Please note the maximum scale for vessels and independent projects will be 6”x6”x3” and 6”x6”x1.5” and for tiles.
