About this Event

The Free Black Women's Library presentsBecoming Your Own Primary Partner: How to Care for the Child You Once WereA Somatics Workshop led by Blessing UchenduThis workshop invites you to show up for yourself in a whole new way — not as someone broken or needing to be fixed, but as your own most reliable and loving partner. Together, we’ll shift how we think about the inner child — not as fragile or damaged, but as the fierce, resilient part of you that’s been surviving and deserves your full attention, care, and protection.Using gentle teaching and reflection paired with somatic (body-centered) practices, you’ll connect with the part of you that had to grow up too fast and learn how to offer it comfort through presence and embodiment. This is a space for healing and real connection, made especially for Black women, femmes, and nonbinary folks. Come as you are, and start becoming your own primary partner — because that relationship is the root of true healing and freedom.

Her philosophy is that healthy relationships are cultivated out of a healthy relationship with ourselves. She holds a Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and currently lives in NYC. When she’s not working, you can find her stumbling around on roller skates or biking.
