Ms. Tubman would likely be far more interested in helping people of 2026 envision the change they want for today’s world…and lead them toward finding their role in getting that done.

That’s the goal professional storyteller Vernell Ball holds in her heart for audiences every time she portrays Harriet Tubman. Ms. Ball says she sets out not just to educate audiences who attend her performances, but to inspire them in tangible ways that can bring real change in their world.

Yuma Center for Spiritual Living, in celebration of Black History Month, has invited Vernell Ball to share an immersive live performance as Harriet Tubman on Monday, February 23. The center is located at 781 S. 2nd Ave., across from Roxaboxen Park.

This event, which is open to the general public, will begin at 7 PM. Admission will be a love offering.

About Vernell Ball: She is a full-time Yuma resident and a retired educator with more than 30 years’ experience teaching at levels ranging from kindergarten to the university. She is a professional storyteller and has portrayed Harriet Tubman at community and school events for many years.
