Join The Butler Institute of American Art for an engaging and thought-provoking panel discussion exploring the histories, stories, challenges, and triumphs of American LGBTQ+ artists from the 18th century to the present day.

Over the past 250 years of American history, LGBTQ+ individuals have experienced periods of both acceptance and resistance. Throughout these shifting cultural landscapes, artists have often stood at the forefront of advocating for visibility, freedom of expression, and social progress. This special program will examine how American artists have helped shape conversations around identity, equality, and representation while contributing to the broader advancement of LGBTQ+ communities.

Panelists: John Noga, Arnold Tunstall, Todd R. Urban, Heather Seno, and Ginger Williams.
Moderated by Larry Jones, Interim Director.

Community Art Activities

In addition to the panel discussion, guests are invited to participate in two collaborative art engagements celebrating identity, affirmation, and community. Create a Pride affirmation flag and contribute to a large rainbow mosaic mural, where individual expressions come together to form a vibrant symbol of unity, inclusion, and the shared journey toward LGBTQ+ visibility and equality.

Light refreshments will be served during the reception.
