🐋 Is 2025 the year you’ll swim with whales? What about an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind encounter with a curious and adorable whale species?
🌊 Meet the dwarf minke whale—growing up to 8 meters (26 ft) long and 6 tons (13,000 lbs). These unique whales gather each June/July in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, creating the only reliable aggregation of its kind worldwide.
The best part? You don’t need to be a diver, you can snorkel alongside these majestic creatures, capturing unforgettable moments up close.
Trip Highlights:
📅 Dates: July 8–13, 2025
🚢 Liveaboard: MV Argo—one of the most comfortable vessels on the Great Barrier Reef.
🗺️ Activities: Up to 4 days seeking minke whales.
Snorkel the vibrant Ribbon Reefs and enjoy up to 10 scuba dives (for certified divers), including night dives.
Non-divers can snorkel the same sites as divers, non need to wait around to accommodate diving
Why Join Us?
✔️ Smaller Group, More Whale Time: To comply with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park code of conduct, we limit our group size to a maximum of 12 guests in the water at a time. Unlike larger operators with higher group numbers - where guests must rotate and wait their turn - we maintain an open-deck policy. This means no time restrictions, giving you uninterrupted opportunities to enjoy Minke Whale encounters to the fullest.
📸 Photography support: Get expert tips from professional photographer Nicolas Remy, who will be onboard to assist with equipment, techniques, and feedback to capture breathtaking shots.
🌊 Local expertise: Martin Connolly of Scuba IQ brings extensive experience leading minke expeditions, working with the MV Argo and unrivalled knowledge of the Ribbon Reefs for the best encounters.
🎙️ Seasoned trip leader: Matt Waters, founder of Nomadic Scuba and host of the ScubaGoat podcast, regularly plans and leads trips globally. He’ll be ensuring all of our logistics are in place and running efficiently.
Fitness & Certification Requirements
💪 Minke swims: Effortless snorkeling by holding onto a line extended from the dive deck, open to all snorkelers.
💧 Scuba diving: Certified divers (Open Water or equivalent) can enjoy up to 10 dives including night dives, however the focus will be on minke whales encounters, and we may do fewer dives if we are lucky with high minke activity.
